Les choses immuables me rassurent.
Elles sont comme une présence familière au milieu d’un destin chaotique et incertain.
Les photos que je prends ne témoignent pas de leur temps. Les instants qui les composent sont bien souvent évanescents ou furtifs et ne cherchent ni l’anecdote ni le grandiose.
J’aime croire que ces images invitent au calme, à la paix et à la méditation.
Si elles paraissent statiques, c’est qu’elles sont sereines. Si elles semblent simples, c’est qu’elles nous racontent que l’univers est un équilibre. Elles me rappellent que malgré l’effritement de tout ce en quoi je crois, il reste des piliers qui ne bougeront jamais.
La mer, le cycle de la nature, le ciel, les éléments… ces choses immuables. Mon métier de réalisateur m’a appris à regarder le monde plus attentivement.
Le plaisir scopique est au coeur de ma vie : regarder, voir, observer avec les yeux. On dit d’une personne qu’elle est photogénique, mais il existe le même phénomène pour les lieux.
Parfois, les formes et les lumières s’arrangent dans notre champ de vision pour faire sens et créer une image qui fonctionne. Ce sont ces alignements particuliers qui me fascinent et que je cherche continuellement.
C’est ce que la photographie peut offrir de plus authentique. Je travaille presque toujours avec la même pellicule, le même boitier et le même objectif.

They are like a familiar presence amidst a chaotic and uncertain destiny.
The photos I take do not testify to their time. The moments that compose them are often ephemeral or fleeting and do not seek either anecdote or grandeur.
I like to believe that these images invite calm, peace, and meditation. If they seem static, it is because they are serene. If they seem simple, it is because they tell us that the universe is in balance.
They remind me that despite the crumbling of everything I believe in, there remain pillars that will never move. The sea, the cycle of nature, the sky, the elements... these immutable things.
My job as a director has taught me to look at the world more carefully.
The pleasure of seeing is at the heart of my life: to look, to see, to observe with my eyes. A person is said to be photogenic, but the same phenomenon exists for places.
Sometimes, shapes and lights arrange themselves in our field of vision to make sense and create an image that works. It is these particular alignments that fascinate me and that I continually seek.
It is what photography can offer most authentically.
I almost always work with the same film, the same camera, and the same lens.
